County energy Planning tracker

Tracking progress on local energy planning and clean energy opportunities across Kenya's counties.

Why Is It Important

The Energy Act 2019 requires all counties to develop County Energy Plans (CEPs) to guide local energy planning, investment and equitable access. However, progress remains uneven, reflecting gaps in resourcing for energy planning, compliance, capacity and financing for implementation. Through this map, Power Up tracks CEP progress, highlights gaps and promotes accountability by making county status, funding sources and completed plans easier to access.

PowerUp's Ask

Power Up calls on government, development partners and the private sector to invest in a central facility that can finance, coordinate and support counties to develop County Energy Plans. With stronger capacity and targeted support, counties can accelerate CEP delivery, meet their legal obligations and drive more inclusive, sustainable energy access.
